Description
What a wonderful explosion of colors I found at McKittrick Canyon, deep in the wilderness of the Guadalupe Mountains of West Texas! This place is indeed worth the drive from anywhere. Not only had I have to drive from Houston, (a 9 1/2 hour drive ), but in order to access this remote canyon I had to hike 2 1/2 miles from the trailhead. The bigtooth maples usually change during the first week of November, and the exact time change happens depends upon many variables: number of cold nights below 45F, how wet it was during the Summer, etc. The best thing to do is to follow the Rangers' Fall Foliage report that starts mid-October, which can be seen on their Facebook Page or Instagram Feed. I would definitely visit this place again next year! Thanks for looking. FAA watermark WILL NOT show on fine art print.
