This image was made at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, located in the Texas Hill Country, halfway between Llano to the North and Fredericksburg to the South.
I had learned about the Lunar eclipse of April 2014 a few days before, and given that it coincided with the Full Moon, I decided to make the 5 hour trip to Enchanted Rock, pretty much the only place with Dark Skies in Central Texas that could provide a beautiful backdrop/foreground interest to the celestial object. The location from where I shot this image is in a remote area of the park, an hour away by hiking from the main parking area. I was also able to capture the earth shadow, to what some photographers refer as to the "Galen Rowell" hour, hence the title of this piece.
