This is the Lavaca County Courthouse, located in Hallettsville, Texas. Hallettsville is on Highway 77, which I had to take from Giddings, (to photograph the Lee County Courthouse) heading south through La Grange, (to photograph its courthouse.) This impressive landmark is made of white and grey limestone that was shipped from Mill County by rail, 215 miles Northwest. Back in 1897, local farmers and other laborers helped cut the huge sandstone boulders. Eugene Heiner was the architect of this beauty, the "Grand Old Lady on the Square." By the way! This courthouse served as the "stand-in" for the Fayette County Courthouse while they were filming "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"!
