Description
Well, I've been wanting to capture the whole arch of the Milky Way since I picked up a camera 6 years ago. With the help of Stellarium, I was able to pinpoint the exact time at which the galaxy would rise on the Eastern Horizon, a few minutes after the Sun would go down on the West. (More like an hour and thirty seven minutes.) I arrived in Enchanted Rock State Natural Area precisely at 7:45 PM, after a four-hour drive from Houston. Armed with my heavy backpack, one quart of gatorade and the tripod, I started hiking in 92 degree weather around the base of Enchanted Rock, after I reached Crystal hill, which is on the other side. That's when I realized I had forgotten my panoramic bracket and my cell phone. I explored this beautiful and secluded area of the park and I waited around for sunset. The plan was to hike to Moss Lake to capture a pano of the Milky Way over the water, -and hopefully get some of the sky reflection-, but I realized that I had lost a lot of water, had only one gatorade, was more than two miles away from my car and would have to hike all around the rock at 11:00 PM. While my heart was racing fast, I made an executive decision and turned around, hoping to find an interesting spot near the parking area. This is a 10-image, multirow panorama of the Milky Way. If you notice subtle light differences in the sky, it's because there was a big storm an hour south producing heavy lighting. Thanks for looking. FAA watermark WILL NOT show on fine art print.
