Description
Lost Maples State Natural Area is a state park located in Bandera and Real counties, 1 1/2 hour away from the city of San Antonio, TX. It is well known for its display of colorful grandeur every Fall season, (well, almost every Fall season, depending on the weather throughout the year.) Its long time residents, the Uvalde bigtooth maples, are remnants of prehistoric cooler, wetter eras. Nowadays, they favor shaded areas at the base of canyons or on the side of limestone cliffs. These trees have been discovered far removed from any maple forest, and thus the park was given the name "Lost Maples"
