I had been running around Nacogdoches all day photographing various historic buildings, when at the end of the day ended up in Downtown and its picturesque network of red brick streets. I waited until the street lights would turn on, at the onset of dusk, while the clouds were stirred by cold air masses from the north were dancing ,(more like clashing) with their moist "colleagues" from the south. Thanks for looking. FAA watermark WILL NOT show on fine art print.
The building which houses the General Mercantile and Oldtime String Shop is located in historical downtown Nacogdoches and is over 100 years old. It was once the site of Stone's Cafe, where Bonnie Parker worked before joining up with Clyde Barrow.
Steve Hartz has operated the Oldtime String Shop out of the building since 1978, and has always had a love for the older ways of life. After finding out that the building was also formerly a general store, he and is wife Sheryl decided to continue the tradition and run an old-fashioned general store sometime after 1990. Since that time they have sought to carry a variety of old time merchandise ranging from acoustic musical instruments and accessories to housewares, toys, and clothing.
On Saturday afternoon, visitors strolling the red brick streets will hear Steve and his friends playing foot-tapping string music outside the store for all to enjoy.
