Description
Behold the magnificent Victorian-style architecture of Bishop's Palace, also known as Gresham's Castle, located on Broadway and 14th street in the East End Historic District of Galveston, Texas. It was built between 1886 and 1892 at a cost of $250,000 ($5 million in today's money!) and it was sturdy enough to withstand the brute forces of the great hurricane of 1900. It was built by the architect Nicholas Clayton by order of Colonel Walter Gresham, an attorney and entrepreneur that came down from Virginia after his service in the Civil War.
For this shot I could've stood closer to the building to isolate its impressive architecture, but I wanted to add some dynamism to the photograph, so I crossed the street and stood on the south side of Broadway and tried a composition that would capture the car light trails in a 30 second exposure. The building itself doesn't have any kind of light fixtures around it it was actually dimly lit by the passing lights. A bit of twilight lingers in the sky...

Wonderful shot. Love the framing and the absence of the passing vehicles, save for the lights.
