Description
I have to say, I am so glad I recently became interested in photographing the old architecture of Texas, especially its courthouses. Mostly built in the Romanesque Revival style, these historic landmarks are peppered all around the Tiny State and are as charming as they are pretty to look at. In this case, the Fayette County Courthouse located in La Grange, Texas, doesn't disappoint. Built in 1891 and designed by Riely Gordon, it features white and blue limestone from nearby quarries, and even though details are hard to pick up, they are there. I made this image on July 22nd 2014, a Tuesday morning. Having spent the night at Blanco River State Park, I headed East to Giddings to capture the Lee County Courthouse and then traveled South on US 77 to arrive in La Grange. I absolutely love these road trips that I take through the Texas contryside listening to, what else? ZZ TOP! Thanks for looking!

Hey, you're getting close to my part of the world now. :) Wonderful image of a beautiful building! (And would you believe my hubby's rock band played right next to those steps one night last summer?) Silvio, you might be too young to remember, but this courthouse lawn was used to film a few scenes in a certain hit movie starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds. Whitney Houston took one of her biggest hits straight from this movie, which told a humorous story about a local brothel. And before it became a movie, it was a play which ran for 1,584 performances at the 46th Street Theatre on Broadway. So this building actually has quite a claim to fame!

Delilah, thank you so much for the wealth of information you just provided! Wow! I'll definitely look those movies up on Netflix! Thank you indeed!!!
