Pedernales Falls is one of my favorite Texas State Parks along with Enchanted Rock SNA and Lost Maples SNA. Some of the reasons why I love this park are its miles and miles of hiking trails through juniper-covered hills and through many creek crossings; the bald cypresses display during the Fall season; its dark skies despite its proximity to Dripping Springs and Austin, and its beautiful falls that afford so many wonderful photographic compositions! In this case, my family and I visited on Thanksgiving Day 2016. An opening in the clouds let the sunlight shine on the eastern side of the Falls, bringing to life the native vegetation of oaks, prickly-pear cacti, yucca, and bald cypresses, turning this backdrop into the perfect complement to the sheer force of moving water in the foreground.
