Description
800 miles or 800 feet? Which one would you prefer? The first one is the distance that people had to travel to go from one rim to the other before the bridge was erected! Navajo Bridge is located on Highway 89A, which links the settlements of Bitter Springs to Jacob Lake, AZ, at the entrance of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Construction began in 1927 and it was open in 1929. At that time it was the tallest steel bridge in the whole world. A new bridge had to be built in the 60's to accommodate larger vehicles and more traffic.
On this occasion, I was making the drive from Monument Valley, AZ to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, an amazing 250-mile trip that took me through different areas of the Navajo and Hopi Nation. Thank you so much for looking and please enjoy!
